 Happy Independence Day!!!!!!

Materials

3 yards of thread in red with 12 inches on a shuttle

3 yards of thread in white wound on a shuttle

1 stick (I used one from an old paper flag)

glue

stiffening agent

Terms

white shuttle- shuttle with white thread on it

Make the 1st white ring and add to the chain.
Use the white shuttle from now on and hide
the red shuttle end

red shuttle- shuttle with red thread on it

Start with the red shuttle

Lock Join to the 3rd picot on the day 1 motif (see picture)

Using the white shuttle

At this point you are done with the thread on the red shuttle so hide the end in the next chain.  Do not use the red shuttle anymore.  You will keep the red ball thread

Assembly

Glue or sew the star to the blue square

Stiffen the flag

Using the white lock stitch chain:  near the first ring pull the lock st
itch chain up through the 12th p on the day 1 motif.  Then near the 2nd ring pull the lock stitch chain up through the 10th p on the day 1 motif.  Then bring the stick up through the loops to make a flag!  You make need to use a few drops of glue to hold it in place.  There were left over staples in mine so that held the loops in place.

There are 2 things to tat today. I have to admit that this year I seem to be in love with lock stitches.

Motif 1: For the final ring I actually did a single shuttle split ring.
I hid the ball thread in the first half of the ring and the 
single shuttle split ring will hid the shuttle thread.
You can do whatever is easy for you.

Welcome to the 4th of July tat-a-long!

Its a good thing I planned this out last year and have forced myself to stick to it!  There was a little chaos here in Ottawa yesterday when we had an exceptional amount of rain in a short time.  I was driving to pick up my friend Heather and got to see the absolute astounding amount of water.  Fortunately I did not encounter a puddle so deep my car stalled but I was watching for them.

Variation 2

In the first round replace the large rings with 4 mm beads otherwise it is exactly the same as day 1.  I used paperclips to hold the beads in place until the 2nd round

I am having trouble finding letter beads or else I would have CANADA in beads in the middle.  Alternatively, if you are celebrating the 4th of July then you could use beads to spell USA 250.

Add a jump ring and clasp to one end and a jump ring to the other.  Use multiple jump rings if this is not long enough for you.  Alternatively you can add length by adding a few more middle repeats.
